A private, historic atmosphere greets guests upon entering Briar Rose, which was built in Jefferson City Missouri in the early 1900's as a private residence. Architectural detail in woodwork and antique furnishings complete the ambiance in an elegant, but homey setting. Guests will also find unexpected treasures in turn of the century books, period household items, postcards, pictures, clothing accessories, maps, and other interesting memorabilia. Briar Rose Inn Bed & Breakfast is a wonderful place to have a romantic get away, or just to relax and be pampered. Guests are encouraged to explore drawers and closets just as if they were at Grandma's house.

Our guests tell us they are more than pleasantly surprised at the extreme spaciousness and privacy of our 6-room Eastlake Suite. This suite is comprised of the whole upper level of the Inn and is the perfect suite for guests who want their own quiet getaway or for guests who are traveling with a third party and need an extra bedroom (twin sized bed).

The Eastlake Suite's high ceilings, plank floors, transom windows, and French doors are pleasant reminders of days gone by. The suite has has a private entry, an elegant parlor featuring wing back chairs, Victorian side chairs and tables, and an antique gramophone. Guests also have access to the modern conveniences of cable TV, VCR, DVD, and free wireless internet service. The large bedroom is adjoined to a private bath with the original 1906 claw foot tub and shower.

The bedchamber features an antique queen size Eastlake period high bed, along with antique marble topped dresser and night stand. The dining room contains a claw foot oak table with velvet covered, antique Eastlake dining chairs, period china, silver, and crystal. A lace tablecloth and curtains, along with soft chamber music completes the setting for elegant breakfast dining. The Eastlake Suite requires climbing a set of steps

The 5-room Federal Suite , which is on the main floor, also has a private parlor, spacious bedroom with private bath (tub and shower), access to the main dining room and kitchen area, and its own private balcony area. Tiffany-type light fixtures grace the entry along with an original 1878 era pump organ. The parlor features a crystal chandelier, an ornate Victorian velvet fainting couch, leather wing back chairs, and period side tables. It also features the original tiled, coal-burning fireplace with mantel in which guests may burn candles for a romantic evening.

Original pocket doors separate the Federal Suite parlor from the bedchamber, which features a four-poster queen size bed in the Federal style with gold-leafed carvings of pineapples and shells. A large, matching chest-of-drawers and dresser are ideal for those who are planning to stay a few days. The bath has both bathtub and shower and has been decorated in period motif as well. The dining room, with crystal chandelier and Federal style dining set in cherry wood, is the perfect place for an elegant breakfast, complete with chamber music, china, crystal, and silver. Our guests do not leave hungry after eating our large country style breakfast.

The 3-room Rustic Retreat Suite on the lower floor is our newest suite. It has a private entry, bedroom with private bathroom, and kitchen/sitting area. The sitting area outside our Rustic Suite is close to a cozy flower garden in which guests may see squirrels, rabbits, and in season, our resident robins. The Rustic Retreat Suite features original limestone and brick walls in both the kitchen and bedroom areas along with wooden beams. The bedroom features a queen size bed with cable TV. Free Wireless internet service is also available. The kitchen has its own fridge, microwave, coffee pot, and kitchen dinette set.
