q KATY Trail Information Hiking/Biking the KATY Trail - North Jefferson Trail Head Open year round.  This is said to be the longest rails to trails hiking and biking path in the US.  It begins in Clinton, MO and ends at St. Charles, MO with many stops along the way, of which the North Jefferson Trail Head is the closest to Jefferson City, MO.  Historical markers describing Missouri events are all along the trail .      The Briar Rose Inn B & B is about three and one half (3.5) miles from the North Jefferson Trail Head for bikers cycling to and from the bed and breakfast. We now have a shuttle service for bicyclers who don't wish to bike the Missouri River Bridge. According to our guests, crossing the Missouri River bridge may be slightly confusing, so it helps to have a few directions.     There is NO biking lane on Hwy 54 going WITH traffic into Jefferson City. There is only about a one-foot shoulder between  traffic and the concrete walls of the bridge. Traffic will be going the speed limit of 60 miles per hour or faster. Although we have had guests ride with traffic, most say it was a harrowing experience.                                                                                       Many of our guests suggest that bikers go across the Hwy 54 overpass to connect with the  designated biking lane on the second  Hwy 54 (south) bridge. The fee is $10 per one way trip for two guests.    Note:  (Shuttling to the Briar Rose is one trip) (Shuttling from the Briar Rose back to the North Jefferson Trail head is one trip)      Guests are welcome to use the shuttle service for only one way, for both ways, or not at all. Our goal is to accommodate whatever best suits  your needs. We will also shuttle between the various Katy Trailheads to and from Jefferson City in case our guests encounter problems on the KATY Trail.
